Take a brisk walk for half an hour three times per week.
27. In the middle of
a rotten situation,
think of at least three ways in which things could have been worse.
Rejoice
that you have not suffered those further misfortunes.
28. Repair that
broken chair or squeaky
hinge or whatever nagging problem there is in your place that has
bothered
you and which you are capable of fixing.
29. Buy yourself a
gift.
30. Look up at the
clouds and make
out faces and shapes of objects floating in the sky.
31. Clear your place
of clutter. Give
those things you no longer use to others who need them.
32. Take a break in
the middle of
the day for a catnap.
33. Imitate the
crying of a baby —
give your attempt lots of breath and lots of volume and make it as
ridiculous
as you can.
34. Make an honest
and realistic assessment
of your finances. Then make a budget and stick to it.
35. Take off your
shoes and walk barefooted
on the grass, gravel, pavement or sand.
36. At night, look
up at the sky and
feel the distance between you and the flickering stars.
37. Give and receive
plenty of hugs.
38. Gather together
photos and pictures
cut from books and magazines to make a scrapbook of places you would
like
to go and things you would like to do or have in your life over the
next
five years.
39. Learn some jokes
and tell them
to your friends or colleagues.
40. Take swimming
lessons.
41. Look up an old
teacher who had
a significant effect on you and thank him or her for having shown you
the
way.
42. Take yourself
out to a special
dinner. Take others along if you like, but the treat is for yourself.
43. Volunteer to
teach your language
or literacy or whatever special skill you have.
44. Walk in the park
or woods and
observe the trees: see the difference in the shapes and colours of the
leaves; feel the roughness or smoothness of the various barks; discover
their fragrance.
45. Sing "Old
MacDonald had a farm...."
and make all the ridiculous animal noises you can think of.
46. Join a theatre
group.
47. Sit down and try
to remember all
the things you said you wanted to be as a child and as you were growing
up. Write them down. Examine them to see which were pure fantasy and
which,
if any, represent your true dreams.
48. Compliment
someone you admire
on that which inspires your admiration.
49. Get a piece of
clothing or accessory
from your parents, grandparents or earlier ancestors and incorporate it
into your wardrobe.
50. Take a cooking
class or get books
and learn a new style of cooking.
